I want to open my own bakery after college. What is the best schooling to do this? Which degrees, classes, etc.? Also, what is the best way to advertise a new business? How do I go about opening a bakery? Anything helps. Thanks. =)
i’m in college right now.

Start working in a bakery to gain on the job training, experience, knowledge of the business and to make sure you like it. Additionally, as a business owner you will need to know all aspects of the business. If you pay attention to everything the company does right and wrong and how to perform all the task this experience will be very valuable. Build relationships with the suppliers, pay attention to pricing, what each employee does etc… This experience will also help you qualify for a loan when you are ready. On that note….establish credit and never pay a bill late. You can’t get a loan with poor credit. Also the bank will require a down payment so start saving as much as you can.
As far as college: take business courses such as: accounting, management, advertising etc. You should major in business management with an emphasis is something related to baking/cooking or food preparation. You should take as many home economics/food classes as your university offers.
Good luck!

Try to bring something new and fresh to the market, else you will be stuck with low margin products… obviously we are not talking about opening a chain of bakeries across the country, so you will be small for a while – so try to be different to have a competitive advantage. Some ‘signature’ products will make people chose your bakery over the others. People love French, Italian flavored places- try to experiment with stuff like that

if you are wanting to start baking i would suggest a cookery course and maybe get some experiance in a bakers first.
Then when you come to start a business i would recommend some night classes in buisnessing. Also search on the web for help in you local area for starting a buisness.
there are loads of things that you need to think about, such as USP (unique selling point), do you need a loan? how much to sell breedfor? health and safty? food hygine
any questions email me

If you are confident you can start your own business. Of course that’d be tough to market yourself. But once you do well with your preliminary steps you don’t have to worry after. The best thing is analyze your skills and interests then start thinking about something suits that. Then create a website about it (if that can be marketed online) then try to bring some good ideas and partners. Thats it you are in business.
