What is the difference when baking with cake flour, as opposed to all purpose flour?

For the baking gurus. What gives better results when baking a cake. Cake flour, or all purpose flour, which is cheaper anyway. I’ve been told that is cake flour, but I get a very densed cake. Like pound cake, I don’t want that. I want soft fluffy cake.
